My Jesus,
It's time for someone to stop pretending that everything is OK. They need to see that they are not alone and that there is hope for peace at last.
At this moment, someone’s pain is breaking through their façade, unbidden and almost irresistible. Someone is on the brink again, facing a choice, perhaps for the hundredth time: open the door, keep on hiding or just give up altogether.
Please help them to see that in the moments when we feel the farthest from You, You are actually closest to us. Give them courage and hope, Lord, to trust You with the secrets of their heart.
Even in their sense of utter isolation, help them to hear the sound of Your gentle knock at the door of their hearts. Show them that this is precisely where You will enter, if only they would open up to you.
“Broken” and “weary” ’are strange qualifications for Your chosen ones; still Your invitation stands: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
The cross broke Your body, and our sin breaks Your heart, and yet You call us to friendship with You. More than that, Jesus, You did what it took to make it possible. Thank You.
